Transport strike force measures: which services are operating in the AMBA

The protest march called by the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) against the labor reform has caused a transportation strike that partially affects travel in the Greater Buenos Aires Area. Below, we detail the status of each service during this strike.

Subway: service interrupted since the night

The Subway and Premetro Workers’ Union confirmed that subway services will cease starting at 9 p.m. and will continue until the end of the day, approximately between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on most lines. This means that during the morning and much of the afternoon, citizens can normally use the underground transportation service, with disruptions only in the late hours of the day.

Buses operate normally

Unlike other transportation services, buses will run without interruption throughout the day. The Argentine Transportation Union (UTA), the union representing bus drivers, has joined the mobilization to Plaza de los Dos Congresos but has decided not to implement a strike. Therefore, residents of the AMBA can travel normally by public bus.

Trains: partially affected operations

Initially, train services will operate during this protest day. The Fraternity union has expressed its opposition to the labor reform, although it has not officially confirmed its participation in the transportation strike called by CATT. It is important to note that some disruptions are pre-scheduled: the Tigre branch of the Mitre Train is out of service until the end of the month for track renovations between Maldonado and Tigre, while the J. L. Suárez and Benito Mitre branches have limited routes that do not reach Retiro station. Additionally, the Cañuelas-Lobos line of Roca is halted due to construction, and the Dr. Sáenz-M.C.G. Belgrano branch of Belgrano Sur trains runs with restrictions between Tapiales and M.C.G. Belgrano.

Flights with limitations at airports

The Airline Pilots Association (APLA) has announced strike measures between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Ezeiza and Aeroparque airports. During this period, flight operations will be affected in response to the CATT call. Passengers are advised to check with airlines for possible itinerary changes.

Main march at Plaza de los Dos Congresos

The central labor union’s main demonstration will gather at Plaza de los Dos Congresos in Buenos Aires starting at 3 p.m. The protest coincides with the Senate’s discussion of the labor reform bill. Jorge Sola, general secretary of the Insurance sector and one of the CGT leaders, emphasized that the action will be “forceful and massive.” Simultaneously, similar actions will take place at provincial government offices across the country, reflecting widespread rejection of a measure that workers consider harmful to their rights and interests.
