Sudanese officials: Conflict has caused the country's oil and energy industry to lose billions of dollars
Sudan’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mutasim, stated on February 12th local time that the armed conflict in Sudan has caused billions of dollars in economic losses to the country’s oil and energy industry, and damage assessments are still ongoing. Mutasim pointed out that since the outbreak of the conflict, infrastructure in the oil and energy sector has been severely damaged, with many oil fields and refining facilities forced to shut down. The largest refinery in the country, the Khartoum Refinery, has been out of operation for a long time, resulting in a loss of about $6 billion, and reconstruction needs to start from scratch. He also mentioned that Sudan’s largest oil field, the Heglig oil field, was temporarily shut down but has now resumed production. (CCTV News)
