National People's Congress Representative Jia Shaoqian: From Following to Leading, Everything Hinges on "Innovation"
Beijing News (Reporter Geng Ziye) — On March 12, the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress held a “Deputy Channel” centralized interview event. National People’s Congress Deputy, Hisense Group Party Secretary and Chairman Jia Shaoqian shared his deep insights from many years in manufacturing — “Everything depends on the word ‘innovation.’”
In 1997, Jia Shaoqian joined Hisense, starting from the grassroots level, witnessing China’s manufacturing shift from long-term lagging behind to catching up, and today, in some fields, achieving a historic leap to lead. “Hisense has been established for 57 years; it is manufacturing that has made Hisense what it is today.”
Jia Shaoqian explained that, taking Hisense’s chip technology in the display field as an example, 26 years of in-depth cultivation have given them the ability to define their products. Hisense was the first in the world to launch AI light-color control chips and backlight chips. These two display chips enabled Hisense to be the first globally to introduce 3D color control display technology, solving industry-long-standing issues with light-color control, and mass-producing over a year ahead of foreign competitors. More and more “world-firsts and innovations” have elevated Chinese manufacturing to a new height, “and we have tasted the sweet of climbing to the high end of the value chain.”
In the past, manufacturing was called the “industry that earns hard money,” at the bottom of the “smile curve.” But today, manufacturing has become one of the fastest stages for adopting new technologies. Domestically, Hisense actively promotes upgrading and transforming the smart home appliance industry chain and healthy development; internationally, Hisense actively explores overseas markets, with international revenue accounting for an increasing proportion, reaching 50%. Hisense also drives small and medium-sized enterprises along the industry chain to “go global,” expanding the influence of “Made in China” and “Chinese brands.”
As a deputy to the National People’s Congress, Jia Shaoqian focuses on industrial development, especially the difficulties in transforming scientific and technological achievements. He has made relevant suggestions. Currently, Hisense has established in-depth cooperation with more than 70 well-known domestic universities and set up joint laboratories with over 50 suppliers.
Jia Shaoqian stated that in the future, Hisense will leverage its role as a main driver of technological innovation, bridging the “last mile” from “laboratory” to “production line,” turning more good results and innovative ideas from labs into quality products on the production line to meet people’s ever-upgrading new needs.
