Jensen Huang: Artificial intelligence will boost employment as thousands of trillions of dollars will be invested in infrastructure.

Jensen Huang believes that artificial intelligence will not cause a large-scale wave of job losses as many fear, because this technology requires a massive workforce to build and operate the infrastructure. In an article published on March 11, he described AI as becoming “an essential infrastructure like electricity and the internet,” and emphasized that deploying data centers and AI systems could become the largest infrastructure build in human history.

According to Huang, the world has only invested a few hundred billion dollars in this sector, while thousands of billions of dollars in infrastructure still need to be built. AI data centers demand many roles such as electricians, plumbers, steelworkers, and network technicians — skilled jobs that are currently facing labor shortages.

Nvidia is currently one of the major beneficiaries of the AI wave, with chip demand soaring since OpenAI launched ChatGPT. However, some companies are still reducing staff due to AI, such as Block, Inc., Pinterest, and Dow.
