Cambodian entrepreneur Chen Zhi is protesting the U.S. government’s seizure of approximately 127,271 Bitcoin (BTC), according to a recent court filing reported by Bloomberg. Mr. Chen was extradited to China in January on charges of operating a global “pig butchering” scam network targeting victims through online investment schemes.

In a petition to the federal court in New York, Chen’s lawyers argued that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has no grounds to seize the assets. They described the allegations as “completely false” and claimed that the government has not proven that these Bitcoin are connected to fraud or money laundering.

Previously, U.S. authorities froze these cryptocurrencies as part of an investigation into cross-border scams and a gambling network allegedly linked to Chen.
