OpenAI and AWS Sign Agreement to Provide AI Services to the U.S. Government, Covering All Security Levels From Unclassified to Top Secret

Gate News Report, March 18 — OpenAI has signed an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to sell AI services to U.S. government agencies through AWS, covering all security levels from unclassified to top secret. Deployment platforms include Amazon Bedrock, AWS GovCloud, and AWS Secret Region for confidential and top secret workloads. The agreement preserves OpenAI’s control over its technology: OpenAI decides which models can be deployed on AWS and negotiates security requirements and operational conditions directly with customers; AWS must notify OpenAI in advance before providing access to highly sensitive clients such as intelligence agencies. Previously, at the end of February, OpenAI reached an independent agreement with the Pentagon. This AWS partnership expands its AI services to a broader range of federal agencies. AWS is a major cloud provider for Anthropic, which was previously listed as a “supply chain risk” by the Pentagon due to its strict AI usage restrictions.
