Wu: There is a catchphrase that is easily misapplied and can hurt the family members around you. Because this catchphrase seems to be asking for the other person's opinion, but in reality, it is a complaint, or even a command.
This catchphrase is "Can you or can’t you?" For example, if you tell your family, can you make the food a bit lighter in flavor and put less salt? Or if you scold your family, can you go to bed earlier and stop staying up late? Or, can you pour me some water? I’ve been busy all day and haven’t even had a sip.
This catchphrase, for the speaker, implies that I am seeking your opinion or asking for your help, but for the listener, what they hear is criticism, complaint, or command.
So many catchphrases must be used with caution, as they can undermine relationships without you even realizing it.
In summary, so-called catchphrases become our linguistic habits without us realizing it. They can easily express themselves without your awareness, and you overlook whether they are negative or positive. As a result, you are completely unaware of these erroneous catchphrases and their damage to your interpersonal relationships and harm to your family ties.
Assignment: Please observe if there are people around you who frequently use certain catchphrases. Some of their language might make you feel uncomfortable, yet they are unaware of it. Please use your own examples to validate this pattern.
