OpenAI deploys AI age prediction model to restrict teen access

OpenAI states that the company has begun deploying an AI-based age prediction system aimed at identifying ChatGPT users under 18 and automatically implementing content restrictions.
The system evaluates user age by analyzing signals such as account duration, activity times, and behavior patterns, rather than solely relying on the birth date provided during registration. Accounts identified as teenagers will be subject to strict restrictions on violent and sexually sensitive content. OpenAI states that if adult users are mistakenly flagged, they can restore access by uploading a selfie or ID through a third-party service Persona for age verification. Additionally, this update includes new parental control features that allow parents to set quiet hours and receive notifications if their children show signs of severe emotional distress. Currently, the system is live in the ChatGPT consumer plan and is expected to be rolled out in the EU region in the coming weeks. $WLD
