Abstract generation in progress

Starting February 1, 2026, drivers in Veracruz will face a significant increase in traffic fines. The reason: the State General Directorate of Transit and Road Safety (DGTSV) will implement a new violation schedule based on the updated 2026 UMA, valued at $117.31 pesos by INEGI. This 3.69% increase in the measurement unit directly results in harsher monetary penalties for thousands of motorists. Who are the most affected, and what is the real cost? Here’s the explanation.

Fines for driving without documentation: among the most expensive in Veracruz

Driving without valid documentation is considered one of the most serious violations in the state. The penalty depends on the type of driver:

For private individuals, fines will range from $1,876.96 to $3,519.30 (equivalent to 16 to 30 UMA). For transporters and public service drivers, the amounts are more severe: from $3,636.61 to $4,692.40 (31 to 40 UMA).

It is important to note that these monetary penalties can increase substantially if there is recidivism or if the conduct occurs under the influence of alcohol. Both circumstances are considered aggravating factors that significantly raise the final cost.

There is a notable incentive: the state authority offers a 50% discount for immediate payment if the fine is settled within the first five to ten business days from the issuance of the ticket, provided it is not classified as a “very serious” violation.

Other violations adjusted to the new UMA value in Veracruz

The 2026 schedule affects the entire state traffic regulation. Beyond expired documentation, other infractions also see increases in their penalty ranges:

  • Speeding: Penalties increase proportionally to the new fiscal parameter.
  • Use of mobile devices while driving: Immediate payment is required under the new collection criteria.
  • Parking in restricted zones: The current state system automatically updates the payable amounts.

Each of these infractions is governed by the UMA increase, meaning regular drivers could face significantly higher sums than they paid months ago.

How to regularize your situation and avoid surprises

DGTSV recommends not waiting to incur fines. Drivers can visit the state service modules to renew their driver’s license or check the status of pending vehicle debts.

Consultation and appointment scheduling are available through the official website of the Secretariat of Finance and Planning (SEFIPLAN) at: www.veracruz.gob.mx/finanzas. Regularizing on time not only prevents future infractions but also allows you to take advantage of discount benefits if there are already debts to be collected.
