SAUDI ARABIA HAD FORESEEN THIS SCENARIO MORE THAN 40 YEARS AGO

While the entire world enters into panic over what might happen in the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia had prepared a strategic alternative decades ago.
A pipeline of more than 1,200 kilometers that directly connects the Persian Gulf to the Red Sea, allowing oil transport without depending on passage through Hormuz.
The project began construction in 1981, and today it regains prominence.
Currently it can move millions of barrels per day through the desert, avoiding one of the most important chokepoints in global energy trade.
While Iran threatens to close the strait and affect global supply, this quiet project from decades ago is starting to look like one of the most intelligent energy geopolitical moves ever planned.
