Trump was asked by a reporter why he hadn't informed Japan and other allies in advance about war plans against Iran.

He said: "We wanted to surprise them. And who knows more about surprise than Japan? Why don't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"

Trump made these remarks to laughter from the audience. Takamichi Koike, seated nearby, widened her eyes and shifted in her chair while maintaining a forced smile on her face.

"On December 7, 1941, the Japanese military launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Navy base in Hawaii, destroying and damaging multiple American warships and hundreds of aircraft, resulting in approximately 2,400 American deaths. The following day, the United States declared war on Japan."
