Odaily Planet Daily reported that on March 20, local time, U.S. officials announced that the U.S. military is deploying three more ships and approximately 2,500 Marines to the Middle East. Previously, informed U.S. sources stated that the troop increase would provide President Trump with more military options, including launching operations to open the Strait of Hormuz, which would require air and naval forces near the Iranian coast. According to sources, the Trump administration is also considering deploying ground forces to Halek Island, a strategic point for Iran’s oil exports. The plan aims to seize the island as leverage to pressure Iran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Halek Island is located in the northwest Persian Gulf, over 20 kilometers from the Iranian coast, and is Iran’s largest oil export hub, with about 90% of Iran’s oil exported from there. (CCTV)
