Been diving into the metaverse app space lately and honestly there's a lot more going on than I initially thought. Everyone talks about how big this whole metaverse thing has become, especially after all the hype a few years back, but the actual apps worth using are pretty scattered.
So I checked out some of the main ones. Axie Infinity is still doing its thing with the whole play-to-earn battle system - you collect these NFT creatures called Axies and fight them for rewards in AXS tokens (currently around $1.12). The daily active users have been solid, though not as crazy as the peak hype days.
Then there's Roblox, which is interesting because it's not even blockchain-based like most metaverse apps. It's just a massive platform where anyone can build games and others play them. Over 200 million monthly active users at its peak, and people can actually make money as creators. The mobile access is huge for adoption.
Decentraland is another one that got a ton of attention. You can buy virtual land as NFTs and do stuff with it - advertising, building experiences, whatever. MANA token hit crazy prices back in 2021 but has cooled down to around $0.09 now. Still one of the more established metaverse apps though.
The Sandbox is similar vibes - create voxel-based structures, sell them as NFTs using SAND tokens (trading around $0.08). No coding needed which makes it accessible. Sandbox really took off with creators.
MOBOX combines gaming with yield farming and NFTs in their MOMOverse ecosystem. You play games, earn rewards, stake tokens. Pretty user-friendly Android app.
Mines of Dalarnia is a free-to-play dungeon crawler where you mine resources and fight monsters, earning DAR tokens (currently $0.02) that you can use in-game. Web-based so no heavy PC requirements.
Zepeto from Naver Z lets you create 3D avatars and socialize. Massive user base in Asia, lots of customization options. The mobile app makes it easy to jump in anytime.
Bloktopia is the newer VR-focused one designed like a 21-level skyscraper (Bitcoin reference). You buy property with BLOK tokens and earn from leasing. Heavy emphasis on immersive VR experience.
Honestly, picking which metaverse app to actually use depends on what you're into - gaming, creating, investing in virtual real estate, or just hanging out socially. The space has matured enough that there's legit options for different use cases now. Not everything is a get-rich-quick scheme anymore, which is refreshing.
