Just updated my SASSA R350 banking details and honestly, the process depends on which grant you're getting. If you're on the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you've gotta go in person to your local SASSA office—no way around it. They make you fill out the Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID, and proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months or an official letter). The whole thing takes about 21 working days to process, and if you miss the 15th deadline in your current month, they'll just keep paying into your old account for another cycle. Pretty annoying if you ask me.
But here's the thing—if you're on the SRD R370 grant (the emergency relief one), changing your banking details is way easier because it's all online. You just go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a secure link via SMS. Click the link, enter your new bank details, and you're done. Takes a few days to a couple weeks for the bank to verify everything. The key thing is making sure the account is in your name—SASSA won't pay into joint or third-party accounts, so keep that in mind.
Oh, and if you need to update your phone number (especially for SRD), use their contact details page on the portal. You'll need your ID and Application ID, enter your new number, get an OTP sent to verify it, and submit. If the online thing doesn't work, just call their helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. Honestly, going in person is the safest bet if you're worried about getting it right the first time.
