According to Xinhua News Agency, citing The Wall Street Journal on the 26th, the United States will raise tough demands in negotiations with Iran, with significant disagreements still remaining between the two sides. The third round of indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on the same day. The report quoted U.S. officials as saying that U.S. negotiators are expected to clearly state that Iran must dismantle its main nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, and transfer all remaining enriched uranium to the United States. The report also said that the U.S. expects to insist that any nuclear agreement must be “permanently effective,” rather than like the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, where some restrictions would gradually be lifted over time. U.S. officials stated that the U.S. insists Iran cannot conduct any uranium enrichment activities, but its negotiating team might allow Iran to restart its nuclear reactor in Tehran to process very low-enriched uranium to meet medical needs. The report further mentioned that this round of negotiations will focus on nuclear weapons issues. (Xinhua News Agency)
