[Caixin] The first movie in 2026 to receive a Douban rating above 9.0 has appeared. Data from the National Film Special Fund Office shows that in the ninth week of 2026 (March 2–8), the nationwide box office revenue was 826 million yuan, a 65% decrease compared to the previous week. The movies that broke 100 million yuan at the box office last week all came from the Spring Festival release, namely “Flying Past Life 3,” “The Dagger: Winds Rise in the Desert,” and “Silent Insect,” which together contributed 77% of the total box office last week and still held a dominant position during the weekend with many foreign films entering the market.

These three movies are also the top three in the current annual box office rankings. “Flying Past Life 3” has surpassed 4.1 billion yuan in total box office, making it the highest-grossing film in the series; “The Dagger: Winds Rise in the Desert” and “Silent Insect” earned 1.28 billion yuan and 1.24 billion yuan respectively.

The first wave of new films after the Spring Festival comes from Europe and America, marking the highest number of Hollywood releases in March in recent years. (See Caixin report “Box Office | Hong Kong film expands distribution, Hollywood releases hit a new high in March”)
