On March 16th local time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that it is difficult to predict the prospects of this Middle East conflict. He said that recently U.S. President Trump claimed that Iran has been “completely defeated,” but on the same day, an Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson stated that the conflict will last at least until Passover, with thousands of targets still to be struck, meaning the conflict will continue for at least three more weeks. Lavrov emphasized that if the conflict is not immediately stopped, reason is not restored, and efforts are not made to develop an agreement, it will be hard to predict the consequences and final outcome of this crisis. Additionally, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the same day regarding the escalation of the Middle East situation, saying that Russia is willing to assist in achieving a long-term and sustainable resolution to the Middle East conflict.
