Recently, according to an internal document issued by China Telecom Group, Sun Qiuying has been appointed Vice President of China Telecom Research Institute, with a one-year secondment.

Clearly, Sun Qiuying is only on a secondment to hold this position. His own background is quite distinguished; prior to this secondment, he was Vice President of Shenyang University of Technology. This is the first time a university vice president has been seconded to one of the three major operators, which is highly significant.

From Sun Qiuying’s resume, we know he was born in 1977, is only 49 years old, holds a PhD, and is currently Vice President of Shenyang University of Technology. He has long been dedicated to research in energy internet, new energy grid connection control, and artificial intelligence applications in energy systems, achieving breakthrough results in “self-energy” system architecture and energy router development.

Obviously, Sun Qiuying is very talented and young, making him a rare talent.

However, university research tends to be more theoretical and often disconnected from practical application. Arranging Sun Qiuying to be seconded to China Telecom Research Institute as Vice President is largely aimed at deepening industry-education integration. In simple terms, it will greatly benefit university scientific research.

In the telecom industry, China Telecom Research Institute is highly reputable and influential. As the core R&D organization of China Telecom Group, it continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies and has achieved many internationally leading results. Meanwhile, the institute leads or participates in the formulation of multiple communication industry standards within international standardization organizations, and collaborates extensively with universities and enterprises, actively promoting industry-academic-research cooperation.

Therefore, Kang Zhao, Editor-in-Chief of Operator Finance Network, believes that encouraging university teachers to take secondments in well-known enterprises can promote industry-education integration and help cultivate high-quality talent, which is beneficial for the development of universities, enterprises, and the country.
