Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the “Notice on Conducting Hydrogen Energy Comprehensive Application Pilot Projects,” expanding hydrogen energy application scenarios from single fuel cell vehicles to diverse applications. The plan aims to have 100,000 fuel cell vehicles nationwide by 2030. Industry insiders say this policy implementation will further expand hydrogen energy application scenarios, reduce hydrogen costs, positively boost sales of hydrogen commercial vehicles, and inject new momentum into companies’ green transformation.

In terms of hydrogen energy deployment, FAW Jiefang (000800.SZ) is aligned with the “dual carbon” strategy, adhering to a development strategy that advances both “hydrogen fuel cells” and “hydrogen internal combustion engines” simultaneously. Currently, it has built a comprehensive hydrogen commercial vehicle product system covering multiple scenarios and platforms. Its vehicles are suitable for logistics, urban sanitation, long-distance and short-haul transportation, and urban construction debris removal—covering five major commercial vehicle platforms: heavy, medium, light, micro, and passenger vehicles—serving as industry models for hydrogen energy transformation.

In hydrogen technology R&D, FAW Jiefang has achieved significant results with two demonstration routes. In the hydrogen fuel cell sector, the company leads the industry in vehicle hydrogen consumption and focuses on core technologies such as system integration, electronic control, fuel cell stacks, membrane electrodes, and bipolar plates. By 2025, FAW Jiefang, in collaboration with the China Academy of Space Technology, will launch the country’s first liquid hydrogen heavy-duty truck for real-world road demonstrations, with a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers—setting a domestic record for hydrogen heavy trucks.

In the hydrogen internal combustion engine sector, FAW Jiefang’s自主研发 (independent R&D) process is steadily progressing. A 49-ton heavy-duty tractor equipped with its self-developed hydrogen internal combustion engine has completed over 60,000 kilometers of road tests on the Chengyu Expressway, thoroughly validating its reliability and stability in real-world scenarios, further expanding the application scope of hydrogen commercial vehicles.

A solid technical layout relies on a strong patent portfolio. Public data shows that FAW Jiefang has a deep patent layout in core areas such as hydrogen system assemblies, fuel cell stacks, membrane electrodes, and bipolar plates. Its leading number of invention patents in the commercial vehicle field provides a safeguard for continuous technological iteration and upgrading.

As hydrogen energy pilot policies are gradually implemented, the industry market space is expected to further open up. A relevant person from FAW Jiefang stated that the company will continue to focus on R&D, operation, and manufacturing of hydrogen vehicles, practice the development philosophy of “technology liberation, green liberation, international liberation,” deepen industry-ecosystem integration, promote large-scale commercial application of hydrogen energy technologies, and support the industry’s green transformation.
