Protecting Beijing's "Vegetable Basket"! Beijing's February Agricultural and Sideline Products Account is Here
“Vegetables and rice bags” are essential for people’s livelihood and well-being.
The prices of agricultural and sideline products affect thousands of families’ reunions.
Which fruits, vegetables, grains, and oils are rising, and which are stable?
Let’s listen to the latest price report brought to you by Development Jing.
In February, due to the closure of wholesale markets during the Spring Festival, the transaction volume of various agricultural and sideline products in Beijing decreased regularly. The wholesale price of pork slightly declined, while other agricultural products remained stable or slightly increased.
Month-on-month, vegetable prices slightly rose; wholesale pork prices slightly declined; egg prices slightly increased; beef and mutton prices slightly increased; grain prices fluctuated slightly; edible oil prices remained basically stable.
Over the past five years, excluding mutton, prices of other agricultural and sideline products are at their lowest levels in the past five years.
From the national price level, in February, Beijing’s vegetable, pork, and egg prices ranked 29th, 24th, and 21st among 36 major cities nationwide, all below the national average.
Vegetable prices slightly increased
In February, influenced by the Spring Festival holiday effect, vegetable prices showed a trend of rising first and then falling, with wholesale prices at their second-lowest in five years. Before the festival, supply of winter storage vegetables and southern vegetables was tight, and holiday consumption demand increased, pushing vegetable prices slightly higher. After the festival, as vegetables from surrounding areas like Hebei flooded the market, supply quickly recovered, and prices generally stabilized or declined.
Wholesale vegetable prices, community vegetable store prices, and chain supermarket prices were 1.55 yuan, 3.94 yuan, and 4.52 yuan per jin, respectively, with month-on-month increases of 0.65%, 2.6%, and 2.96%, and year-on-year increases of 18.32%, 11.61%, and 15.9%.
Wholesale pork prices slightly declined
Due to increased slaughtering by major pig industry groups and large-scale pig farms, and limited holiday effect, wholesale pork prices slightly decreased month-on-month and declined significantly year-on-year, reaching their second-lowest in five years.
Wholesale pork, agricultural trade, and supermarket prices were 8.14 yuan, 14.07 yuan, and 15.03 yuan per jin, respectively, with month-on-month changes of -0.73%, +4.38%, and +0.33%, and year-on-year declines of 13.31%, 3.5%, and 8.41%.
Egg prices slightly increased
Supported by demand for holiday preparations, egg prices slightly rose. In February, wholesale egg prices showed a pattern of rising early and then falling later, mainly to clear pre-holiday stock. By the end of the month, prices dropped significantly from the beginning, with a total decline of 25.84%, but compared to January, prices still slightly increased.
Wholesale egg prices, agricultural trade, and supermarket prices were 3.68 yuan, 4.41 yuan, and 4.9 yuan per jin, respectively, with month-on-month increases of 2.79%, 7.56%, and 4.03%, and year-on-year changes of +6.05%, -7.74%, and -8.07%.
