Anthropic ignites another wave of AI funding frenzy: plans to raise $10 billion, with valuation soaring to $350 billion

GateNews

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, artificial intelligence company Anthropic is planning a new round of large-scale financing, aiming to raise approximately $10 billion with a target valuation of up to $350 billion. The company is the developer of the popular AI chatbot Claude and is one of the most closely watched unicorns in the current generative AI track.

The report states that Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and well-known hedge fund Coatue Management are expected to lead this round of funding. If the deal is finalized, the $350 billion valuation will be nearly double Anthropic’s valuation in September 2024. At that time, Anthropic completed a $13 billion funding round led jointly by ICONIQ Capital, Fidelity Management & Research Company, and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with an estimated valuation of about $183 billion.

This financing round again highlights the high level of global capital enthusiasm for the AI sector. Data shows that in 2025, the AI industry’s funding scale will hit a record high, with total financing exceeding $200 billion for the year. Investors generally believe that whoever can lead in general artificial intelligence and large model applications will have the opportunity to dominate the next technology cycle.

Founded in 2021, Anthropic was established by former Google researcher Dario Amodei and his sister Daniela Amodei. Its core product, Claude, is known for its safety and powerful coding capabilities, especially favored by enterprise users and developers, rapidly penetrating fields such as AI programming and enterprise automation.

The report states that this round of financing is being advanced against the backdrop of Nvidia and Microsoft planning to invest up to $15 billion in Anthropic. The related deal is expected to be completed within the next few weeks, but the specific amount may still be adjusted. Internal company estimates suggest that Anthropic is expected to achieve breakeven by 2028, earlier than its main competitor OpenAI.

Additionally, Anthropic is also reported to plan to initiate a listing process this year. In comparison, OpenAI is currently seeking up to $100 billion in new funding, with a target valuation of about $750 billion. The capital race among leading AI companies continues to intensify.

From an industry perspective, nearly half of global venture capital flows into artificial intelligence in 2025, with the largest single funding round coming from OpenAI. Several companies, including Anthropic, Scale AI, Project Prometheus, and Elon Musk’s xAI, have single-round funding scales exceeding $5 billion. Overall, AI funding enthusiasm is still accelerating, with industry concentration and competition intensity rising simultaneously.
