Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Tang Bo: Gold tokens can generate interest on-chain, different from traditional gold ETFs

RWA-1,22%

Odaily Planet Daily reported that Tang Bo, Assistant Dean of the Institute of Financial Studies at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, stated that gold tokenization is becoming one of the most promising tracks in the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA). The value of gold as a safe-haven asset is returning, and tokenization technology will give this ancient asset a new financial attribute. Gold tokenization differs from traditional gold ETFs. A gold token is a certificate that corresponds 1:1 with physical gold, and holders can directly extract the physical gold from the vault, whereas ETFs are just asset certificates. More importantly, gold tokens can generate interest on the blockchain, further activating the financial properties of gold through collateralized lending and other methods. (21 Economy)
