The Trump administration considers implementing a maritime blockade on Cuba's oil imports

Odaily Planet Daily reports that, according to three informed sources cited by Politico on Thursday, the Trump administration is weighing new measures to push for a change in the Cuban regime, including a comprehensive blockade on oil imports to the Caribbean country. According to two of the sources, this escalation has been driven by internal critics of the Cuban government within the administration and has received support from Secretary of State Pompeo. No decision has yet been made on whether to approve the measure, but they added that it could be included among a set of options presented to Trump, aimed at forcing the Cuban government to step down. The move to block crude oil shipments to Cuba will go further than Trump’s statements last week, when he said the U.S. would prevent Cuba from importing oil from Venezuela, which had previously been Cuba’s main source of crude oil.
