PANews January 27 News, according to CoinDesk, the U.S. Marshals Service is investigating a seized cryptocurrency theft case involving over $40 million. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT accused the Department of Defense and the Department of Justice service provider CMDSS president’s son John “Lick” Daghita of stealing these assets from a government crypto wallet managed by his father’s company. ZachXBT stated that he has confirmed that at least $23 million of the funds are related to approximately $90 million in cryptocurrency seized by the government in 2024 and 2025, and reported it to the authorities last week. The individuals involved accidentally exposed their controlled wallet addresses by recording videos in a Telegram group chat to show off their wealth. ZachXBT confirmed the fund associations through on-chain tracking. Brady McCarron, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Marshals Service, said that due to the ongoing investigation, no further comments could be made. Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. Marshals Service may not be fully aware of the exact amount of crypto assets under its control. This incident has once again raised concerns about the transparency of government-held cryptocurrencies.
