Odaily Planet Daily reports that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reposted an internal letter stating that the company is negotiating with the U.S. Department of Defense to revise agreements to clearly prohibit AI systems from being intentionally used for domestic surveillance of American citizens and nationals, and to ban tracking or monitoring through commercial personal identifiable information obtained via procurement or use.
The letter mentions that the Department of Defense has confirmed that related services will not be used for intelligence agencies, and any service provision will require separate contract modifications. Sam Altman stated that the company will participate in policy discussions through democratic processes, and will refuse to execute directives it considers unconstitutional. He also mentioned that some technologies are not yet mature and that the company will work with relevant departments to gradually improve security measures.
