EU foreign ministers call on the US and Israel to end the war against Iran and promote a diplomatic solution to the Strait of Hormuz crisis

Gate News Report, March 17 — EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas called on the United States and Israel to end their war against Iran and emphasized that the EU is engaging with multiple Middle Eastern countries through diplomacy to ease the current conflict. Kallas stated that the EU has been in talks with Gulf countries, Jordan, Egypt, and others to promote negotiations among all parties, aiming to de-escalate the conflict and provide a “dignified exit” for the involved nations. Regarding the energy and shipping crisis caused by Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Kallas suggested adopting a model similar to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, using international mechanisms to ensure the safety of navigation through the strait. She mentioned that she has discussed this plan with the UN Secretary-General, and the UN is currently advancing related discussions.
