Gate News reports that on March 18, monitoring by the prediction market Polymarket showed that within the past two hours, a newly created address invested a large sum of $57,500 in a prediction asking “Will the U.S. invade Cuba this year?” Buying at market price caused the probability to spike from 23% to 85% briefly, and it has since fallen back to 28%.
Amid extremely tense U.S.-Cuba relations, Trump publicly stated he might soon have the “honor” of “taking over Cuba,” adding that the U.S. is “talking with Cuba,” and when asked about the order involving Iran and Cuba, he said, “We will deal with Iran first, then Cuba.” The U.S. has already been cutting Venezuela’s oil and financial supplies to Cuba, and Havana residents are worried that these statements are not just pressure but are creating public opinion space for possible action.
After Cuba experienced another nationwide blackout, Trump and Secretary of State Rubio both made statements almost simultaneously, saying Washington hopes for “new leadership” in Cuba. Trump directly told reporters, “We will take some action against Cuba very soon.”
