Gate News message, April 22 — CATL unveiled two new EV battery technologies to address stricter global energy efficiency standards. The third-generation Qilin battery delivers a 1,000 km driving range with a lighter battery pack, boasting a cell energy density of 280 watt-hours per kilogram and 10C charging capability.
The upgraded Shenxing battery achieved faster charging performance, reaching 98% charge from 10% in 6 minutes and 27 seconds, utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.
CATL plans to deploy 4,000 combined charging and battery swapping stations by end of 2026, operated in partnership with automakers including Changan, Chery, GAC, Seres, SAIC-GM-Wuling, and BAIC. In emergency scenarios, station batteries can supply power directly to charging units, enabling equipment utilization above 85%.
