Gate News message: On April 11, CNN reported that an Iranian security source said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Iran and the United States reach a “common framework” to continue negotiations. The source said that the U.S. has made “excessive demands” on multiple issues, including key waterways, and has, to date, prevented the two sides from reaching an agreement on common ground and advancing the negotiations. The source said: “Iran is not in a rush to take action.” Tehran has conveyed to the United States that, before reaching a common framework, “the status quo in the Strait of Hormuz will remain unchanged,” and that “even the previously agreed number of ship transits will not be achievable.” If U.S. negotiators do not demonstrate “a prospect with real meaning,” the strait will remain closed.
