Gate News message, April 22 — Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency warned on Wednesday that Gulf Arab countries continue to face the risk of undersea data cables in the Strait of Hormuz being cut. The agency stated that if multiple major cables are simultaneously damaged, whether due to accident or sabotage, it could trigger severe internet outages across the Persian Gulf.

Multiple cables pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Gulf region has previously experienced internet disruptions following repeated cuts to undersea cables in the Red Sea. Yemen’s Houthi forces have previously issued threats targeting such cables.
