Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to Offer Ceremonial Gift to Yasukuni Shrine

GateNews

Gate News message, April 20 — Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae will offer a ceremonial gift called makaki to Yasukuni Shrine on April 21 in her official capacity as Prime Minister. The shrine, located in Tokyo’s Chiyoda ward, enshrines 14 Japanese war criminals from World War II, including Hideki Tojo.

Yasukuni Shrine visits and offerings by Japanese politicians have long drawn opposition from domestic peace advocates and the international community. The practice remains controversial due to Japan’s wartime history and the shrine’s enshrinement of Class-A war criminals.
