Gate News message, April 22 — An individual attempted to enter RAF Lakenheath, a major U.S. Air Force base located in Suffolk, England, without proper identification yesterday (April 21) at approximately 8am. Security forces swiftly deployed gate barriers and prevented the vehicle from entering the installation. The person was taken into custody by the Ministry of Defence Police.
RAF Lakenheath serves as the largest U.S. Air Force operated base in the United Kingdom and is home to the 48th Fighter Wing, known as the Liberty Wing. The Wing hosts approximately 7,000 active-duty personnel, British and U.S. civilians, and 11,000 family members across RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell. It operates four combat-ready fighter squadrons equipped with F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft, representing the largest U.S. fighter operation in Europe.
The base confirmed that no lockdown notice was issued. The individual apprehended was not identified as a protester, distinguishing this incident from recent anti-war demonstrations held outside the facility.
