U.S. Stocks Rally on Iran's Hormuz Strait Opening; Airlines Surge, Netflix Drops

Gate News message, April 17 — Iran announced opening the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels, prompting U.S. stocks to open higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (U.S. benchmark equity index) gained 1.09%, the Nasdaq Composite (U.S. technology-heavy index) rose 1.03%, and the S&P 500 (U.S. broad market index) climbed 0.65%.

Airline stocks surged on the geopolitical development. Delta Air Lines jumped over 7%, American Airlines rose over 7%, and Alaska Air Group gained over 6%.

Netflix, however, fell sharply, declining over 10% after the company’s second-quarter profit guidance came in below market expectations.
