Onchain Data Monitoring Platform Onchain Lens detected an interesting signal on January 15th — a whale investor with wallet address “0xBd8” just finished a costly HYPE trade.

This whale initially went long on HYPE with 5x leverage on HyperLiquid, hoping for the price to break upward. However, the market did not move as expected. In the end, the whale chose to cut losses and close the position, resulting in a loss of approximately $7.18 million. But that’s not all — when including losses from other trades, this whale’s total loss in this round of the market has reached $8.09 million.

After such a heavy blow, the whale decided to withdraw the remaining funds from HyperLiquid. What does this move signify? First, it indicates that this whale lacks confidence in the subsequent market trend; second, it reflects how volatile projects like HYPE can be in the short term — even institutional investors with ample funds suffered significant losses in leveraged trading.

For ordinary traders, this case is worth pondering: in the current environment where HYPE signifies high risk and high volatility, blindly following the trend with high leverage long positions may very well lead to the same fate as this whale.
