The spike follows reports that the U.S. Department of Justice is expected to withdraw its criminal investigation into current Fed Chair Powell. Senator Thom Tillis, a member of the Senate Banking Committee, previously stated he would block Vance’s Fed Chair nomination from proceeding to a full Senate vote if Trump did not drop the criminal investigation into Powell.
With the DOJ set to withdraw the investigation into Powell, market participants now expect a high probability that Vance will be confirmed by the Senate before Powell’s term expires on May 15.
