Iran's Foreign Minister Blames US and Israel for Hormuz Strait Tensions

GateNews

Gate News message, April 22 — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on April 22 that the current situation in the Hormuz Strait is a direct result of military strikes by the United States and Israel against a UN member state. Araghchi made the remarks during a phone call with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, discussing regional developments and the security, legal, and economic impacts of US-Israel military actions against Iran.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran, as a coastal nation of the Hormuz Strait, has taken measures under international law to protect national security from US-Israel aggression and threats. He stressed that the global economic consequences resulting from these actions should be borne by the aggressors. Araghchi also condemned US-Israel strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities as unacceptable, and criticized some European countries for remaining silent on such actions, describing their stance as a “double standard” that undermines international law and non-proliferation mechanisms.

Tajani underscored the importance of achieving peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region and expressed Italy’s willingness to play an active role in promoting overall regional stability.
